To change people’s minds, you often have to change the terms of the debate.
The BED Media Project was launched specifically to bolster the media skills of core grassroots leaders, especially activists of color, involved in economic justice campaigns.
Today, the term “living wage” is a standard term in the economic debate. In addition, the concept of “quality jobs” is discussed along with the concept of “job creation.” Both of these trends are hard-won victories in the war of words. To support this effort, BED partnered with the SPIN Project—nonprofit communications specialists.
Two media handbooks were designed to help advocates clearly communicate to broad audiences. These handbooks provide an overview of the economic justice landscape, Its victories, and challenges. They also provide several case studies that include state minimum wage campaigns, immigrant worker organizing strategies, community benefits agreements, and other aspects of the economic justice movement.
