Tides Relief and Reconstruction Fund quickly and efficiently channels emergency relief in the aftermath of natural and civil disasters. The Fund pools donors' resources to increase the impact of their giving, and researches and distributes funds to effective grassroots and advocacy organizations working for long-term economic, social, and structural change.

In the Fall of 1998, when evening news broadcasters described the destruction Hurricane Mitch caused in Central America, Tides donors responded to this natural disaster with timely emergency aid for Central American reconstruction efforts. In October 1999, newspaper headlines described the civil violence erupting in the emerging democracy of East Timor. Again, Tides Donors responded with emergency aid for reconstruction efforts within the war-torn region.

Your nimble response and interest in these events helped the Tides staff create the Tides Relief and Reconstruction Fund (previously called the Tides Rapid Response Initiative), a funding vehicle that provides timely emergency relief through organized channels of support. This fund allows you to increase the impact of your one-time giving by banding together with other donors to strategically allocate a collective pool of funds.

Tides staff works closely with groups to identify how money can best be distributed; Tides works to ensure the money is received by effective grassroots and advocacy organizations that are striving for long term economic, social, and structural change.
