

Tides Foundation is a public charity offering individuals and institutions a vehicle for their philanthropy. Unlike many other foundations, Tides does not have discretionary grantmaking funds and has no open proposal submission process. Rather, we partner with individual and institutional donors through donor advised funds. Our fund advisors direct their own grantmaking and most do not accept unsolicited proposals. Those funds with open solicitation processes are listed below.
The California Wildlands Grassroots Fund supports conservationists advocating for the permanent protection of intact wildlands on both public and private lands in order to help preserve California's wilderness and native biological diversity. CWGF defines "wildlands" as natural habitats, privately or publicly owned, that are (or have the potential to be) permanently preserved through legislation or deed restrictions. Eligible organizations must be California-based 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4) or fiscally sponsored organizations with budgets under $100,000.
The Death Penalty Mobilization Fund (DPMF) is a Tides Foundation funding collaborative that supports strategic collaborations of local, regional or national nonprofits working to abolish the death penalty at the state and/or federal levels. Projects supported by the Fund may also focus on intermediate steps such as specific reforms to the death penalty system, moratoria on executions, or study commissions. The Fall 2009 cycle is an open RFP process. Applications for Fall 2009 are due by 5pm EST on Monday, August 17, 2009and funding decisions are expected by the middle of October.
Money Well Spent funds programs that help to ensure resources for family planning and reproductive health in sub-Saharan Africa are well spent. The purpose of this program is to identify and fund primarily advocacy and policy-related activities, oriented to solving specific problems to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of expenditures of funding in the family planning and reproductive health sector. The LOI cycle is now open and Letters of Interest are due by June 12, 2009.
The Moloka'i Environmental Protection Fund (MEPF) is no longer accepting applications for funding. The Fund is undergoing a strategic revisioning process to be completed by the end of 2009. Please check this site at that time for updated information. Thank you for your interest.
