Selection and Diversity
Employees are selected on the basis of relevant job history, education, experience, and the completion of an application, successful interview, and background and reference check process.
Diversity and Multiculturalism
Tides deeply values and is committed to diversity. We respect the differences among us, knowing those differences strengthen and enhance our experiences, both at Tides and in our communities. We strive for inclusion of people from varied economic levels, ethnic backgrounds, and work experiences. We welcome diverse skills, work styles, and perspectives to create a work culture that mirrors the rich diversity of our geographic metropolitan areas. We purposefully invite and welcome these differences, in recognition of historical exclusion and current experiences of discrimination in this country, and because it promotes organizational creativity, innovation, and effectiveness. Our intent is to create a culture that engenders the full involvement of all staff.
Tides seeks to hire from all segments of the community for all job levels, and actively supports the development of employees’ professional growth and successful job performance.
For diversity to flourish, people must feel safe. This requires trust, open communication, and a willingness to take risks. The process is an ongoing one which, at times, may feel uncomfortable. It calls for courage and patience to think well of and with others, and to act in a collective best interest.
To strengthen our commitment, the Tides Board of Directors adopted the following diversity policy in 2008:
The board membership and talent pipeline shall be made up of smart, talented, engaged, and knowledgeable women and men from diverse racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, cultural, professional, and class backgrounds. The board will develop and implement ongoing plans for its sustainable visibility, outreach, and recruitment to diverse communities. The board shall monitor and report its progress toward these goals annually. The board and staff will adopt appropriate benchmarks to measure annual progress. In the event that Tides is not meeting the benchmarks, Tides will evaluate what additional and more aggressive steps must be taken to meet the benchmarks.
Equal Employment Opportunity
Tides is an equal opportunity employer and makes employment decisions on the basis of merit and an application, successful interview, and background and reference check process. We want to have the most qualified individuals in every position. Tides policy prohibits unlawful discrimination based on race, color, creed, gender (including gender identity), religion, marital status, registered domestic partner status, age, national origin or ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical conditions including genetic characteristics and cancer-related conditions, sexual orientation, people with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and AIDS-related conditions, political affiliation or any other consideration made unlawful by federal, state, or local laws. Discrimination also includes a perception that anyone has any of these characteristics, or is associated with a person who has or is perceived as having any of these characteristics.
Tides prohibits discrimination, including unequal treatment of employment policies, practices, and procedures in employment decisions that affect an employee’s terms and conditions of employment (e.g., promotions, training, salary increases, etc.). We are committed to complying with all applicable laws providing equal employment opportunities. This commitment applies to all persons involved in the operations of Tides and prohibits unlawful discrimination by any employee.
Disabilities and Reasonable Accommodation
Tides is committed to ensuring equal employment opportunities to qualified individuals with disabilities. Tides will make reasonable accommodations for the known physical or mental limitations of an otherwise qualified individual (applicant or employee) with a disability, unless undue hardship would result. Any applicant or employee who requires an accommodation in order to perform the essential functions of the job should contact their supervisor and/or Human Resources to request such an accommodation. The individual with the disability should specify in writing what accommodation is needed to successfully perform the job. If the accommodation is reasonable, allows the employee to perform the essential functions of the job successfully, and will not impose an undue hardship to the organization, Tides will consider, and if appropriate, make the accommodation. Tides may also propose an alternative accommodation(s). Any questions should be directed to Human Resources.
